Summary:

Indian airlines and hotels are increasingly catering to pet owners, with pet-related bookings for flights and hotels growing by 26% to 43% year-on-year in FY25. Air India flew nearly 7,000 pets last fiscal year, representing a 33.7% year-on-year rise. Akasa Air also saw a 26% increase in reservations, raising its in-cabin pet weight restriction to 10 kg. In the hospitality industry, MakeMyTrip reported a 43% increase in pet-friendly bookings, while Airbnb experienced a 35% rise in pet-night stays and listings.

Bringing pets along can be costly. Airlines charge Rs. 3,000-10,000 (US$ 35.59-118.62) per pet per sector, which includes veterinary certificates and specialized carriers. Airports lack dedicated pet relief areas and qualified handlers, causing discomfort. Hotels often charge Rs. 500-2,000 (US$ 5.93-23.72) for cleaning or damage fees and impose breed/size restrictions. Pet-friendly accommodations are primarily found in major metropolitan areas, with limited options in smaller cities.
