Summary:

India plans to launch 52 satellites over the next five years to enhance space-based surveillance for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, according to IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Kumar Goenka. The initiative, announced at the Global Space Exploration Conference 2025, will involve both ISRO and private sector organizations. The aim is to detect enemy movements, monitor borders, and improve real-time coordination, with future enhancements to be decided by the Union Home Ministry and defense forces.

In addition to satellite launches, ISRO is transferring Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) technology to the private sector. The SSLV can rapidly launch small satellites into low Earth orbit, a capability crucial for defense during emergencies. It can launch satellites weighing between 10 and 500 kilograms into a 500-kilometer orbit. Key advantages include low cost, fast turnaround, flexibility, and minimal infrastructure. The technology transfer is expected to be announced within the next two weeks.
