Summary:

The Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) predicts that stainless steel consumption in India will increase by 7 - 8% annually over the next two to three years. In FY25, consumption reached 4.8 million tonnes, up 8% year-on-year. Per capita consumption stands at 3.4 kg, lower than the global average of 6 kg, indicating significant growth potential. At the Global Stainless Steel Expo 2025, ISSDA President Rajamani Krishnamurti highlighted infrastructure opportunities, including railways, tunnels, ports, and airports. India is the world’s second-largest consumer and third-largest producer of stainless steel. The country’s construction industry is projected to reach $1.42 trillion by 2027, with growing demand from sectors such as green energy. Stainless steel’s durability, recyclability, and low maintenance align well with the government’s infrastructure push.
