Summary:
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has launched a series of strategic initiatives to strengthen the National Statistical System, aligning with the ambitious ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision for 2047. These measures are designed to deliver accurate and timely data essential for informed policymaking, with a focus on refining data collection, enhancing processing efficiency, improving dissemination practices and upgrading statistical infrastructure. A significant component of these efforts involves conducting comprehensive national sample surveys on critical socio-economic topics, including health, education and labour and employment. Leveraging advanced digital platforms equipped with integrated validation mechanisms, MoSPI aims to minimise data processing delays and ensure greater accuracy.
Furthermore, MoSPI maintains a robust system for providing key economic indicators such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in accordance with the Advance Release Calendar (ARC). To enhance public access to this data, the Ministry introduced the eSankhyiki portal, offering extensive time series data on major macroeconomic indicators along with a comprehensive catalog of essential data assets. To empower states and Union Territories (UTs) in building their statistical capacities, MoSPI provides financial assistance through the Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS) scheme. This Grant-in-Aid initiative is intended to enhance regional data management capabilities, contributing to a more resilient and integrated national statistical framework. These initiatives were highlighted by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for MoSPI and Planning, Mr. Rao Inderjit Singh, in a written statement presented to the Rajya Sabha. By reinforcing data reliability and accessibility, MoSPI continues to support evidence-based governance and contribute to the nation’s development goals.
