Represented by Mr. Arindam Bagchi, India welcomed the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025 - 2034 and highlighted efforts to integrate evidence-based traditional practices such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, and Siddha with modern medicine under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, serving as a global model. India expressed strong support for the new WHO framework.

The WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre (GTMC) in Jamnagar, Gujarat, opened in 2022 and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros, exemplifies India’s contribution to global traditional medicine. The Centre promotes data analysis, policy development, standards, and research. In 2025, the Ministry of Ayush signed a Donor Agreement with WHO to create a Traditional Medicine module for the International Classification of Health Interventions, enhancing worldwide recognition of Ayush systems. India remains committed to WHO’s efforts to promote safe, evidence-based traditional healthcare.
