The MNRE has established the Innovative Projects Start-up Challenge for Rooftop Solar (RTS) and Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) technologies. During the National Conference on Skill Development for the Renewable Energy Workforce at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan in New Delhi, the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) and Startup India, in collaboration with DPIIT, announced a national-level initiative to advance India's rooftop solar and DRE ecosystem.
The competition encourages entrepreneurs in green tech, IoT, AI, blockchain, finance, construction, energy hardware, and waste management. It prioritises cost through modular systems, resilience through improved grid stability, inclusion with community solar and virtual net metering, and sustainability through recycling and hybrid clean energy. Selected contestants compete for Rs.2.3crore (US$265,130), comprising Rs.1crore for first prize, Rs.50lakh for second, Rs.30lakh for third, and 10 Rs.5lakh consolation awards. Winners get incubation, pilot chances, and professional guidance. Applications conclude August 20 and results will be released September 10, 2025.
