Summary:

According to Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, India ranks third globally in constructing general dry cargo vessels for European short sea trade. He credits this achievement to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s "Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047" and highlights how strategic reforms and skill development have transformed Indian shipbuilding into a globally recognized sector, advancing the "Make in India, Make for the World" initiative.

The Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030 is a comprehensive strategy focused on port infrastructure, logistics, shipbuilding, and waterways through 150 initiatives across ten themes, including sustainability and innovation. Over three years, major port capacity grew from 1,598 to 1,630 MMTPA, vessel turnaround time decreased from 53 to 48 hours, and ship berth day output rose from 16,000 to 18,900 MT. Capital investment increased by 37% to Rs. 7,571 crore, with 75 port projects awarded to enhance capacity and efficiency.
