Japan, a leading automaker, shipped 5.12 million vehicles in 2024. Honda Cars India exported 45,167 Elevate SUVs, mainly to Japan, more than double its domestic sales. Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx and Jimny SUVs are popular there, with the Jimny receiving 50,000 orders within four days. Indian OEMs are entering established markets with competitive vehicles. Yamaha plans to export premium motorcycles to Japan. India’s automotive exports rose 15% to 770,364 vehicles in FY23, aiming for a 30% export share within five years.
