Summary:

According to a BCG analysis, India's AI industry is projected to triple to more than Rs. 1,45,384 crore (US$ 17 billion) by 2027, making it one of the fastest-growing AI economies globally. This spike is being fuelled by increased enterprise IT investments, a strong digital environment, and a vast skill pool. With 6,00,000 AI specialists, India provides 16% of global AI talent, second only to the United States, demonstrating its STEM and demographic capabilities.

Scalable digital infrastructure such as Aadhaar, UPI, DigiLocker, and ONDC are helping to increase India's AI preparedness. When combined with widespread smartphone use, these platforms create data-rich settings critical for AI training. In 2025, India intends to build 45 new data centres, increasing capacity by 1,015 MW. The IndiaAI program, with a Rs. 10,000 crore budget, will supply over 10,000 GPUs. BCG's Mandeep Kohli emphasised that AI success is dependent on technology uptake, talent, and successful organisational integration.
