Summary:
India’s data centre industry is undergoing rapid transformation, with hyperscale facilities emerging across both metro areas and Tier II/III cities. Mumbai and Chennai lead with 41% and 23% of the national capacity, respectively, followed by Delhi NCR at 14%. Over the past 6–7 years, data centre space in major cities has quadrupled. By 2030, total capacity is expected to exceed 4,500 MW, driven by demand from cloud services, AI workloads, and edge computing, covering nearly 55 million square feet.
Between 2020 and April 2025, India added 859 MW of new data centre (DC) capacity, with Mumbai contributing 44%, followed by Chennai and Delhi NCR at a combined 42%. From 2025 to 2030, an additional 3,000–3,700 MW is projected, with Mumbai and Hyderabad each expected to contribute 1,000–1,200 MW. Major projects include AdaniConneX, Yotta Infrastructure, and CapitaLand. By 2030, large-scale, AI-ready, and green-certified DCs will dominate, with sustainability and high-density infrastructure driving future growth.
