Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that India’s domestic defence output has reached a record Rs. 1,46,000 crore (US$ 17.09 billion), with exports exceeding Rs. 24,000 crore (US$ 2.81 billion). Speaking at the CII Annual Summit 2025, he praised the Make in India initiative for reducing import dependency and strengthening national security. Defence exports have surged from less than Rs. 1,000 crore a decade ago to over Rs. 23,500 crore today, highlighting India’s growing global defence reputation.

India is shifting its defence priorities beyond conventional sectors such as fighter aircraft and missiles, increasing investment in cyber warfare, space capabilities, and AI-powered systems. In the 2025-26 Union Budget, the Defence Ministry was allocated Rs. 6,81,000 crore (US$ 79.82 billion), a 9.5% increase from the previous year. This allocation accounts for 13.45% of total government spending and nearly 1.9% of GDP. The government is also promoting greater private sector participation and increased R&D spending for advanced defence manufacturing.
