During a recent two-day visit, Walmart CEO and President Doug McMillon revealed that the company wants to source Rs. 86,030 crore (US$10 billion) in yearly commodities from India by 2027. The US-based retail behemoth established a global sourcing centre in Bengaluru in 2002 and has sourced over Rs. 2,58,090 crore (US$30 billion) of items from India over the previous two decades. Its sourcing currently includes fashion, food, toys, and more. McMillon visited suppliers and explored Walmart's India-focused growth efforts, such as digital innovation and inclusive supply chains. He worked with MSMEs educated by Walmart Vriddhi, which has trained 70,000 firms since 2019, with an additional 1,00,000 expected in three years. McMillon complimented Flipkart and PhonePe, which were inspired by Vriddhi, for leading global innovation and inclusivity.
