The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has established the online application site for the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India (SPMEPCI), which aims to establish India as a worldwide EV manufacturing powerhouse. Applications are accepted from June 24 to October 21, 2025. Notified on March 15, 2024, with guidelines announced on June 2, 2025, it intends to attract worldwide EV investment, boost Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and contribute to Net Zero by 2070. Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy described it as critical for India's future-ready mobility under PM Modi. Approved enterprises can import e-4Ws valued at Rs. 30,12,170 (US$35,000+) at 15% customs tax, contributing Rs. 4,150 crore (US$482 million) and reaching DVA goals for local growth and jobs.
