Summary:

A contract valued at Rs. 12,000 crore (approximately US$ 1.41 billion) has been jointly secured by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Hitachi Energy India from Adani Energy Solutions for the development of India’s largest privately led power transmission project. Designed to establish high-voltage direct current (HVDC) terminals, the project will facilitate the transfer of electricity from Bhadla in Rajasthan which is renowned as a major renewable energy hub and to Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. Spanning a distance of 950 kilometres, the project will boast a transmission capacity of 6,000 Megawatts (MW), sufficient to power an estimated 60 million households. The initiative is being executed under Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions and was awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding process.

Among the project’s critical components are converter transformers, thyristor valves, alternating current (AC)/direct current (DC) control and protection systems and 765 kilovolt (kV)/400 kV grid interfaces. This infrastructure is expected to significantly bolster grid stability while improving the integration of renewable energy sources into the national power system. The strategic partnership between BHEL and Hitachi Energy India reflects a broader national commitment to modernising energy infrastructure amid rising demand. Through the adoption of cutting-edge HVDC technology, the initiative will help curtail transmission losses and accelerate India's transition towards a more resilient and sustainable power sector.
