The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), in conjunction with UNSIAP and UNSD, will hold a three-day Regional Workshop on "Data Ethics, Governance, and Quality in a Changing Data Ecosystem" on July 14-16, 2025. Participants include chief statisticians and heads of non-governmental organisations from 16 Asian-Pacific nations. The event highlights India's commitment to ethical and high-quality data ecosystems. MoSPI Secretary Dr. Saurabh Garg emphasised the significance of data ethics, standards, and interoperability. Mr. Shombi Sharp of the UNRC complimented India for being the first to build a subnational SDG indicator system, demonstrating the country's progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The program is on evidence-based policymaking and regional collaboration in an ever-changing data context.
The program includes four theme sessions on the changing role of NSOs, institutional modernisation, quality assurance, and contemporary statistical production architectures. Interactive breakout sessions and group conversations promote peer learning and experience sharing. It aims to develop NSO capabilities in a changing data landscape by emphasising South-South collaboration and the exchange of best practices. A follow-up National Capacity Building Workshop will be held from 17 to 18, 2025, to improve statistics systems in Indian states and union territories.
