Between April 1, 2024 andMarch 25, 2025, India’s rice exports reached an impressive 198.65 lakh tonnes (19.86 million tonnes), surpassing the 163.58 lakh tonnes recorded in FY24. Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food andPublic Distribution, Ms. Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, informed the Rajya Sabha that the government closely monitors rice exports to ensure domestic food security and maintain market stability. In FY25, basmati rice accounted for 59.44 lakh tonnes of total exports, while parboiled rice shipments stood at 90.44 lakh tonnes. Additionally, nonbasmati white rice exports sum up 33.23 lakh tonnes, broken rice exports reached 7.95 lakh tonnes and other rice varieties contributed 7.59 lakh tonnes.
She also emphasized that India produces approximately 50-60 lakh tonnes of broken rice annually, primarily utilized for ethanol blending with petrol, as well as poultry and animal feed. In FY24, basmati rice exports amounted to 52.43 lakh tonnes, parboiled rice shipments stood at 75.7 lakh tonnes, while non-basmati white rice exports sum up 23.6 lakh tonnes. Broken rice exports reached 5.49 lakh tonnes, with other rice varieties accounting for 6.36 lakh tonnes. The government remains committed to balancing export policies to protect consumer interests, support farmers and strengthen national food security.
