APEDA believes that India’s alcoholic beverage industry holds significant untapped global potential, with gin, beer, wine, and rum gaining international recognition. At Alcobev India 2025, APEDA Chairman Mr. Abhishek Dev stated that the goal is to increase alcoholic beverage exports from Rs. 3,162.21 crore (US$ 370.5 million) to Rs. 8,535 crore (US$ 1 billion) by 2030. He encouraged the industry to expand into new markets, which would enhance product quality and global branding.
Mr. Abhishek Dev also noted that India is close to finalizing a mutual recognition agreement with Australia for organic products, including organic wine. Mr. Subrata Gupta, Food Processing Secretary, emphasized the need to increase value addition while reducing waste in agricultural processing. He pointed out that India processes only 3-4% of its fruits and vegetables, compared to Thailand’s 40%. He advocated for greater processing and export of alcoholic beverages to raise farmer incomes and generate valuable foreign exchange.
