Summary:
Tata Motors has begun testing hydrogen-powered heavy-duty vehicles, marking a key step toward India’s net-zero emissions goal by 2070. The 24-month trial will deploy 16 hydrogen-powered vehicles equipped with H2-ICE and H2-FCEV technology along critical freight networks. Funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the study will assess economic feasibility and infrastructure development.
The hydrogen truck lineup includes the Tata Prima H.55S (H2-ICE, H2-FCEV) and Tata Prima H.28 (H2-ICE), offering an operational range of 300-500 km. These trucks are designed for cost efficient, high-performance, low-emission transport, featuring advanced safety features and a premium cabin for driver comfort. Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Pralhad Joshi praised the initiative as crucial for decarbonizing India’s transport sector.
