
Summary:
To meet the rising industry demands, the Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry plans to train approximately 42 lakh individuals through 19 government schemes over the next five years. The PM Vishwakarma Scheme, in collaboration with the MSME Ministry, aims to train 30 lakh candidates by 2027-28. Additionally, 11.6 lakh individuals will be trained for the National Green Hydrogen Mission by 2029-30, ensuring structured and time-bound training through PMKVY.
The number of trained candidates may exceed 45 lakh, with workforce demand still being assessed for 11 schemes. Training costs will be shared between the Skill Development Ministry and the implementing ministries, with varying contributions. In February 2025, the Union Cabinet allocated Rs. 8,716 crore (US$ 1 billion) for the Skill India Programme, aiming to align skills with industry demands and enhance employment opportunities.
