Summary:

India has the potential to become a global leader in wind power manufacturing, thanks to its strong infrastructure and well-established ecosystem. Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Energy, emphasized the importance of government support programs, such as the National Manufacturing Mission. With 64% local content in wind energy projects and around 2,500 MSMEs in the sector, India aims to meet 10% of global demand by 2030, exporting turbines to the United States, Australia, and Brazil.

He advocated for fiscal support, similar to the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for solar, to boost wind energy manufacturing. Over the past decade, local wind energy content has declined from 75% to 64%, highlighting the need for stronger government efforts and incentives. The National Manufacturing Mission seeks to expand clean-tech production, particularly wind turbines. Suzlon remains committed to wind energy components while exploring hybrid and round-the-clock energy solutions.
