Summary:

According to the DPIIT, India's recognized startups have created over 16.6 lakh jobs between 2016 and October 2024. IT services contributed 2.04 lakh jobs, followed by healthcare (1.47 lakh) and professional services (94,000). With 1.59 lakh firms recognized by January 2025, India has the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, home to more than 100 unicorns.

 

The Fund of Funds for Startups Scheme has committed ₹11,148 crore (US$ 1.29 billion) to invest in 1,165 startups by 2024, totaling ₹21,221.36 crore (US$ 2.45 billion). To accelerate growth, DPIIT has partnered with ITC Ltd to support manufacturing startups. This announcement coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Startup India program on January 16.
