Summary:
Domestic Mutual Funds (MFs) held a record 9.45% stake in NSE-listed companies as of September 30, 2024, up from 9.18% in June 2024, driven by net inflows of US$ 10.57 billion (Rs. 89,038 crore). Meanwhile, LIC's share dropped to 3.59% due to profit booking. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) increased their stake to 16.46%, while Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) raised their share to 17.55%, supported by net inflows of US$ 11.56 billion.
Mr. Pranav Haldea, Managing Director of PRIME Database Group, stated that the gap between FIIs and DIIs has shrunk to a historic low of 1.09%, with DIIs holding $911.36 billion (Rs. 76.80 lakh crore), 6.19% lower than FIIs. The FII-DII ownership ratio also fell to 1.07%. Despite this, FIIs continue to have a significant impact on the market. As of September 30, 2024, retail and HNI investors held a combined 9.58%, due to adjustments in sector allocations, while government promoter holdings decreased to 9.71%.
