Summary:

For the second consecutive year, the US Mission in India will issue over one million non-immigrant visas in 2024, reflecting rising Indian interest in travel for tourism, business, and education. From January to November, Indian tourist arrivals to the United States increased by 26%, totaling over two million. India has become the leading source of international students, with over 331,000 enrolled, including approximately 200,000 pursuing graduate degrees, primarily in STEM fields.

Significant developments include the creation of a US-based H-1B visa renewal system, allowing Indian professionals to renew their visas without leaving the country. Immigrant visas have facilitated family reunification and skilled worker migration, thereby strengthening India's diaspora. Changes to the J-1 visa program provide more flexibility, while increased visa processing and regulatory changes emphasize the growing importance of India-US bilateral relations.
