Summary:

The Disaster Risk and Resilience Assessment Framework (DRRAF), developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), aims to strengthen India's telecom sector against natural disasters. The study, covering Assam, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat, focuses on disaster risk mitigation strategies. DoT collaborated with key stakeholders, with Dr. Neeraj Mittal reaffirming his commitment to ensuring seamless connectivity under the UN's ‘Early Warning for All by 2027’ initiative.

The report recommends upgrading infrastructure design, establishing a multi-hazard information repository, and enhancing financial safeguards for telecom providers. Key initiatives, such as realtime coordination with state governments and satellite-based communication, are already in progress. These efforts enhance disaster preparedness and communication resilience, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity. The recommendations also emphasize cross-sector collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and improved emergency response to effectively address natural disasters.
