Summary:

India's electricity consumption rose by 5.14% to 125.44 billion units (BU) in November FY24, up from 119.30 GW in November FY23. Peak electricity consumption also increased to 207.42 GW in November FY24, compared to 204.56 GW in FY23. The highest peak demand of 250 GW occurred in May FY24. The electricity ministry predicted peak demand of 235-260 GW this summer.

Experts stated that November FY24 was the hottest in the past five years, which contributed to slower power demand and consumption growth. The delayed start of winter, particularly in northern India, reduced the need for heating appliances. However, they predict demand and consumption to remain stable, owing to strong business activity and a drop in temperature.
