Summary:

On August 31, 2024, APEDA facilitated the first export of Indian pomegranates from Mumbai to Melbourne, marking a significant milestone. This achievement highlights India's adherence to global standards and boosts farmers by creating new revenue opportunities. The consignment, cleared in Melbourne and showcased at Fine Food Australia 2024, underscores the appeal of Indian pomegranates. Market access was granted in 2020, with SOPs formalized in February 2024.

India, the second-largest producer of horticulture crops, grows pomegranates primarily in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh. In FY24, it exported 72,011 metric tons of pomegranates worth US$ 69.08 million to markets like the UAE, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands. APEDA supports these exports with quality protocols and Export Promotion Forums (EPF). The consignment by M/s. Kay Bee Exports, comprising 336 boxes, was packed in Ahmednagar and treated at MSAMB IFC in Vashi.
