Summary:

To stimulate entrepreneurship in India, the finance ministry upped the loan maximum under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) to US$ 23,789 (Rs. 20 lakh). Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance, announced this effort at the Union Budget 2024-25, with the purpose of "funding the unfunded." Entrepreneurs who have previously repaid loans under the 'Tarun category' can now get additional support of up to US$ 23,789 (Rs. 20 lakh) under the new 'Tarun Plus category.’

 

To provide additional protection for bigger loans, the Credit Guarantee Fund for Micro Units (CGFMU) will cover PMMY loans up to US$ 23,789 (Rs. 20 lakh). PMMY, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2015, provides collateral-free microcredit to noncorporate, non-farm small enterprises. Loans are divided into three categories: Shishu (up to $594.50), Kishore ($594.50-$5,945), and Tarun ($11,894.84). The new Tarun Plus category provides additional financial assistance to promote entrepreneurial growth in India.
