Summary:
The Startup India program, launched on January 16, 2016, aims to stimulate innovation and attract investment to the startup ecosystem. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) recognizes entities as startups under G.S.R. Notice 127 (E), dated February 19, 2019. As of June 30, 2024, DPIIT has recognized 1,40,803 startups. Since their inception, these firms have created more than 15.53 lakh direct jobs.
As of June 30, 2024, DPIIT-recognized startups have generated the following direct jobs: 306 in 2016, 51,980 in 2017, 1,00,646 in 2018, 1,63,463 in 2019, 1,81,404 in 2020, 2,10,545 in 2021, 2,74,685 in 2022, and 3,91,943 in 2023. In the first half of 2024, 1,78,316 new jobs were created, bringing the total to 15,53,288 direct positions.
