Summary:
Nearly 16 crore rural families, or 78.58%, now have access to potable water, up from 17% when the Jal Jeevan Mission began. The mission aims to reduce the rural-urban divide and improve public health by providing Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to all rural homes by 2024, helping 19 crore families while also addressing water quality concerns.
Since its inception, the Jal Jeevan Mission has supplied 11.95 crore new tap water connections, with Goa, Haryana, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh achieving 100% rural household coverage. Furthermore, more than 9.29 lakh schools and Anganwadi facilities now have access to clean water. According to the government, over 24 lakh women have been trained to test water quality, with more than 54 lakh tests carried out using Field Test Kits.
