Summary:

The government has deployed an enhanced monitoring system to improve regulatory control of retail gasoline outlets. The system uses technologies such as OTP-based calibration, magnetic selfdestructive pulsers, and digital payment systems to provide real-time data analytics across the gasoline delivery network. Developed under the Legal Metrology Act of 2009 and the Legal Metrology (General) Rules of 2011, it ensures consumer protection, transparency, and fair practices, with an emphasis on high-risk regions across the country.

The monitoring system, developed in collaboration between Legal Metrology departments and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), is based on recommendations made by the Parliamentary Standing Committee. It ensures gasoline distribution accuracy, data integrity, and real-time transaction monitoring. Regular evaluations will track progress, identify obstacles, and implement corrective actions to ensure compliance and protect consumer interests.
