Summary:

Minister Pabitra Margherita announced in the Rajya Sabha that the central government aims to export Rs. 87,450 crore (US$ 10 billion) worth of technical textiles under the National Technical Textiles Mission. Launched in 2020-21 and extended until 2025-26 with a budget of Rs. 1,480 crore (US$ 169.2 million), the Mission seeks to establish India as a global leader. It prioritizes research, innovation, market expansion, exports, and skill development.

 

The technical textiles industry has immense growth potential, catering to sectors such as roads, railways, healthcare, agriculture, and defense. The Mission focuses on developing indigenous machinery and specialty fibers, along with enhancing awareness and skill development. According to Mr. Pabitra Margherita, expanding technical textiles will significantly boost India’s infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and industrial sectors, driving economic growth across multiple industries.
