Summary:

Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister, has announced that India’s large language model (LLM) will be ready within ten months. Part of the India AI Mission, the initiative aims to create AI models that reflect India’s cultural and linguistic diversity. India's AI infrastructure, supported by the India AI Compute Facility with 18,693 GPUs, now competes with global benchmarks like ChatGPT, which used 25,000 GPUs for training, showcasing growing AI capabilities.

A shared computing center with 18,000 GPUs has been set up to support entrepreneurs, researchers, and developers. Approximately 10,000 GPUs are currently operational, with key providers including Jio Platforms, Tata Communications, Yotta, and NextGen Data Centre. The government is seeking AI startup proposals, with six developers working on models expected to be ready in 4-6 months, or at most 8-10 months. India is on track to develop a world-class AI model.
