According to IAMAI and KANTAR, India's internet users will reach 900 million by 2025, owing to an increase in Indic content. The 2024 report reports 886 million users, an 8% year-on-year increase, with rural India dominating with 488 million users (55% of the total). Indic languages such as Tamil and Telugu are popular, with 98% of users accessing such content, while 57% of urban users choose regional languages.

 

The digital gender gap is shrinking, with women currently accounting for 47% of internet users. In rural regions, 58% of shared device users are women, demonstrating improvement in digital inclusion. While rural areas have double the pace of internet growth as metropolitan areas, urban customers are more likely to adopt smart TVs and speakers. Mobile devices dominate access, with rural users excelling at OTT streaming and social media, while urban users choose e-commerce and digital payments.
