Summary:

The government has strengthened quality compliance by issuing Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for over 150 products across household and industrial sectors. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) oversees this initiative, enforcing stricter safety and performance standards. QCOs cover vacuum cleaners, stainless steel kitchenware, massage and electrical appliances, furniture, and steel products, aiming to curb substandard imports and ensure high-quality consumer goods.

India plans to leverage QCOs to enhance manufacturing standards and limit low-quality imports, increasing the number of regulated products from 106 in 2014 to over 732 by October 2024. New regulations will impact the chemical, petrochemical, and steel industries. Through phased enforcement, the government aims to improve consumer safety and elevate the quality of Indianmade products.
