Summary:

The Union Cabinet has authorized the refarming of 687 MHz of spectrum for mobile services, according to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. This decision increases the total available spectrum to 1,587 MHz, with additional plans to meet the estimated 2,000 MHz demand by 2030, as outlined in a report by the Committee of Secretaries.

320 MHz will be released immediately, with further releases planned for 2028-29 to meet the 2030 demand. The government is focused on meeting industry needs and maintaining a stable digital telecom ecosystem. However, a 300-MHz gap remains, with a second phase of spectrum refarming expected. The Committee of Secretaries is set to release its findings by mid-2025.
