Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the importance of infrastructure for India’s development. At the Sonamarg tunnel inauguration, he explained that improving infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir will boost industries, tourism, and employment, helping reduce poverty. The Sonamarg tunnel ensures all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Ladakh. He also highlighted the Zojila tunnel project, which will reduce travel time and offer year-round connectivity.

 

He talked about major infrastructure projects in J&K worth Rs. 50,000 crore (US$ 5.77 billion), including four key corridors like Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar and Jammu-Chenani-Anantnag. These projects will improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost economic growth. He also mentioned the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway and ongoing ropeway projects to support tourism. Gadkari praised engineers and contractors for their work and assured these initiatives will help J&K’s development.
