Summary:

Nokia will set up the world’s largest fixed network testbed in Chennai, investing around US$ 54.07 million (Rs. 450 crore) to enhance ultra-high-speed internet technologies. This facility, located at the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu in Siruseri, will be a crucial R&D center for 10G, 25G, 50G, and 100G passive optical networks. The agreement will be signed in San Francisco, with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin present, emphasizing the state's growing importance as a technology and R&D powerhouse.

 

The Finnish company's facility is expected to accelerate the development of next-generation networks while also creating roughly 100 specialized positions. The Tamil Nadu government will provide Nokia with essential infrastructure, regulatory, and policy support in line with existing policies. According to a government source, this partnership strengthens Chennai's strategic role in Nokia’s global operations and highlights the region's growing significance as a hub for technological innovation.
