Summary:

Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries plans to build the world's largest data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking its entry into India's artificial intelligence sector. The company has acquired AI chips from Nvidia, which will provide advanced Blackwell AI processors for the one-gigawatt data center. At the October 2024 Nvidia AI Summit, Ambani and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized India’s strong digital infrastructure and its potential to drive domestic AI development.

This collaboration supports Reliance Industries' efforts to develop AI supercomputers and large language models (LLMs) tailored for India's diverse languages. The Indian government has allocated over Rs. 10,000 crore (US$ 1.16 billion) to support AI startups and initiatives. Despite challenges such as a nascent semiconductor sector, the partnership between Reliance, Nvidia, and Tata Group underscores India's ambition to become a global AI leader and lays the foundation for future growth.
