Summary:
The South African government has launched the Trusted Tour Operator Scheme (TTOS) to boost tourism from India and China. Despite 100 million Chinese tourists traveling abroad in 2023, only 93,000 visited South Africa, with Indian tourists representing just 3.9% of arrivals. The scheme aims to expedite visa processing for certified tour operators, overcoming challenges such as lengthy procedures and language barriers. A points-based system will assess operators' compliance and experience.
South Africa aims to increase Indian visits from 16,000 to 100,000 by 2024. A 90-day visa waiver for Indian and Chinese tourists is being considered to simplify travel. Indian travelers must apply for a short-term South African tourist visa, which typically takes five to seven working days to process. While the visa fee is waived, an application and logistics fee of US$ 27.28–35.58 (Rs. 2,300–3,000) is required. Upon arrival, travelers must present proper documents and proof of sufficient funds.
