The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has implemented various Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Schemes as part of the 2019 National Policy on Electronics (NPE). The PLI Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing, which commenced on April 1, 2020, has approved 32 companies for investments totaling US$ 1.53 billion and a production target of US$ 144.24 billion. The PLI Scheme for IT Hardware, launched on March 3, 2021, includes 14 companies with investments of US$ 0.34 billion. The PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT Hardware, announced on May 29, 2023, has approved 27 companies with investments of US$ 0.36 billion and a target of US$ 42.57 billion.
As of June 30, 2024, the PLI Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing has attracted US$ 1 billion (Rs 8,282 crore) in investment from seven greenfield and 25 brownfield companies. Greenfield companies invested US$ 0.38 billion (Rs. 3,136 crore), while brownfield companies contributed US$ 0.62 billion (Rs. 5,146 crore). According to Mr. Jitin Prasada, the PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT Hardware received total investments of US$ 55.84 million (Rs. 464.66 crore), with US$ 46.39 million (Rs 386.09 crore) from brownfield firms and US$ 9.44 million (Rs 78.57 crore) from greenfield enterprises.
