Summary:

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has authorized two railway projects worth approximately $808.8 million (Rs. 6,798 crore). These projects include the doubling of the Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and SitamarhiMuzaffarpur sections, covering 256 kilometers, as well as a new 57-kilometer route between Errupalem and Namburu via Amaravati, which is estimated to create around 106 lakh person-days of direct employment within five years.

The doubling of the railway line will enhance connectivity to Nepal, northeast India, and border areas, allowing for faster movement of passenger and cargo trains. The new train route will connect 168 villages, serving a population of approximately 12 lakhs, and will include nine new stations. This project will benefit Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur by increasing freight capacity by 31 million tonnes per year, aligning with the Prime Minister's vision for a New India.
