Summary:

Domestic aviation passenger traffic in India grew by 6.12% in 2024, reaching 161.3 million passengers, according to the DGCA. This follows a 23.36% YoY increase in 2023, driven by postpandemic recovery. IndiGo, the market leader, expanded its share to 61.9%, carrying 99.9 million passengers. Meanwhile, SpiceJet’s share dropped from 5.5% to 3.7%, with six million domestic passengers.

 

The Air India Group, comprising Air India, Air India Express, and Vistara (merged in November 2024), carried 45.8 million passengers in 2024, up from 39.49 million in 2023. Operating a fleet of 300 aircraft, the Group plans to expand to 400 planes within three years, supported by a 570-aircraft order. In December, IndiGo recorded the highest on-time performance at 73.4%, followed by the Air India Group at 67.6%.
