On October 4, 2024, Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty launched the Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) Observatory in Hanle, Ladakh. MACE is Asia's biggest imaging Cherenkov telescope, created in-house by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) at an altitude of about 4,300 meters. Mr. Sajjad Hussain Mufti, Chief Conservator of Forests for Ladakh, described essential aspects of the Hanle Dark Sky Reserve and emphasized the administration's support for DAE activities. Dr. K. K. Yadav delivered a vote of appreciation during the opening, followed by a tour of the MACE Control Room, which highlighted India's contributions to world astronomy.
