Summary:

India's first analogue space mission has launched in Leh, headed by ISRO's Human Spaceflight Centre in collaboration with Aaka Space Studio, the University of Ladakh, and IIT Bombay. This project replicates living in an interplanetary habitat to address the challenges of building a base station beyond Earth. Aaka Space Studio has developed a high-tech habitat prototype that is ideal for testing sustainable human habitation in Ladakh's Mars-like environment of low oxygen and harsh temperatures.

The month-long expedition aims to investigate human adaptability to isolation and extreme conditions, with findings shared internationally. This critical step towards developing space habitation technology lays the groundwork for future analogue research in India. It aligns with the country's long-term ambitions of establishing a permanent human presence on the Moon and Mars, demonstrating India's commitment to contributing to global space exploration and enhancing the understanding of human capabilities in extraterrestrial environments.
