Summary:
The Centre plans to launch a US$ 1.79 billion (Rs. 15,000 crore) green program for MSMEs in early 2025 to promote sustainability and green technologies. This initiative will create an emarketplace for recyclables, connect manufacturers with waste collectors, and establish material recovery facilities (MRFs). MSMEs will receive subsidies to set up MRFs and manage end-of-life product disposal, along with guidance on transitioning to green energy and developing policies.
Mr. Anil Bhardwaj, Secretary General of the Federation of Indian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, stated that the program will enhance global competitiveness by providing financial incentives, capacity building, and policy support. It aims to reduce carbon footprints, create business opportunities, and improve material pricing through the e-marketplace. The plan will focus on energy efficiency and alternative fuels, involving stakeholders such as the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), various ministries, and consultants.
