Summary:
Foreign visitor arrivals in India are expected to exceed 10.1 million this year, up from 9.2 million in 2022, but still lower than the pre-pandemic average of 10.9 million in 2019, according to a Booking.com and Accenture analysis. The report, titled "How India Travels 2024 - The Inbound Edit," projects that India's arrivals will exceed pre-pandemic levels by 2025. Notably, by 2023, visitor spending has risen to 94% of 2019 levels, with the US, UK, Germany, and UAE leading the way.
The survey identifies several key issues for travelers, including insufficient customization options (49%), a lack of packaged travel options (51%), and information overload (43%). Many international tourists want personalized itineraries but struggle with trip planning. To improve experiences, the sector needs to enhance digital resources, increase direct flights, streamline immigration procedures, and promote India's diverse offerings. Mr. Santosh Kumar from Booking.com noted India's remarkable growth in inbound travel, which has risen to 39th in the 2024 Travel & Tourism Development Index.
