Summary:
The Government e-Marketplace (GeM), a transparent digital ecosystem, has revolutionised India's public procurement system since its introduction in 2016. It has made it possible for MSEs to acquire goods valued more than Rs. 8.69 lakh crore, increased the number of registered MSEs from 2,396 to over 11.9 lakh, and raised orders from 2,994 to more than 2.17 crore. By assisting womenowned businesses, startups, and SC/ST MSEs, it has increased inclusiveness while improving digital procurement procedures, efficiency, and transparency. Startup participation increased to over 40,000 organisations, SC/ST procurement surpassed Rs. 21,800 crore, and women-owned MSE procurement increased from Rs. 8 crore to over Rs. 93,327 crore. Additionally, the platform helped national efforts to purchase vaccines and syringes.
