Summary:

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), a Rs. 24,000 crore yearly plan that would begin in FY26. It will target 100 districts with the goal of increasing agricultural production, crop diversity, sustainable practices, irrigation, and financial availability. It is modelled after NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts Programme and would combine 36 initiatives. The selection criteria will include poor productivity, cropping intensity, and loan flow. It is set to launch in August 2025 and will help 1.7 crore farmers.

The Cabinet has authorised additional investments to bolster India's renewable energy sector. NTPC Ltd was granted more financial autonomy to invest up to Rs. 20,000 crore through NTPC Green Energy Ltd. NLC India Ltd. would spend Rs. 7,000 crore through NLC India Renewables Limited. These activities contribute to objectives of 60 GW and 10 GW renewable capacity by 2032 and 2030, respectively. NLCIL also enjoyed flexibility by avoiding the 30% net worth limit at India's clean energy milestone.
