With the introduction of two AI-enabled forecasting products by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), India has made significant progress in bolstering its weather forecasting ecosystem. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh unveiled the AI-based "Forecast of Monsoon Advance over Different Parts of the Country" and a high-resolution rainfall forecast pilot for Uttar Pradesh. The systems provide hyper-local and impact-based weather services. The Uttar Pradesh model uses AI and multisource data to provide weekly forecasts up to four weeks in advance for 16 states and over 3,000 sub-districts. The AI-based "Forecast of Monsoon Advance over Different Parts of the Country" and a high-resolution rainfall forecast pilot for Uttar Pradesh were presented by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh. The systems, which were created by IMD, IITM Pune, and NCMRWF, offer impactbased and hyper-local weather services. To assist farmers and policymakers, the monsoon platform provides weekly projections for 16 states and more than 3,000 sub-districts up to four weeks in advance. The Uttar Pradesh model uses multi-source data and artificial intelligence to provide 1-km rainfall projections. Forecast accuracy has improved by about 40% in India, enhancing decisionmaking across sectors and climate resilience.
