According to SIAM, domestic dispatches from manufacturers to dealers increased 25.4% year over year to 4,37,312 units in April 2026, marking a solid start for India's passenger vehicle industry in FY27. Strong demand for passenger cars and utility vehicles fuelled growth, maintaining the momentum from the second half of FY26. Passenger car sales rose 32.7% to 1,20,945 units, while utility vehicle dispatches rose 21.5% to 2,44,280 units. In the automotive industry, two-wheeler sales increased by 28.4% in April, while three-wheeler deliveries increased by 32.8%. Vehicle wholesales as a whole rose 27.9% to 23,16,671 units. Growing consumer confidence, rising earnings, and consistent demand throughout India's automotive market were cited by industry analysts as the reasons for the expansion. Overall, demand remained strong despite geopolitical concerns and commodities prices.
